Technique 4: Let Small Irritations Pass

NOTE

Adam and his wife were waiting for a valet to bring their car to the front of a restaurant where they had enjoyed a delightful dinner. When the car arrived, Adam noticed a large dent in the rear fender and immediately blew his top. After embarrassing both his wife and himself, he discovered the valet had brought another customer’s car that was identical to theirs. Their car was fine. Adam did not sleep well that night, but it was his own fault. He had blown his stack before properly assessing the situation. He had sabotaged himself.

How many times have you seen people come away the winner after making a fuss over slow service in a restaurant or complaining to a postal employee? Did they really win when they told somebody off on the telephone, became angry in a traffic jam, or worse, exploded in the work environment?
