CASE STUDY: BEING SWALLOWED BY A SHARK

Rob and Jordan started their careers in a large organization at the same time. It soon became obvious, however, that their philosophies toward work and career advancement were radically different.

A quiet, introspective person, Rob does his best to maintain soft, comfortable relationships in all directions. He wants to advance in the organization, but is not as eager as Jordan. Jordan is more competitive. She enjoys confrontations with Rob and others. Jordan has learned that if she can upset another person emotionally, she often comes out ahead. She has the ability to handle heated situations better than others do. Jordan does not feel guilty for using this technique. So far Jordan’s strategy seems to be working. Although younger than Rob, she occupies a more responsible position.
