Chapter 27. Risk to Action Steps Diagram > Scale 2: Severity of Problem

Scale 2: Severity of Problem

This second scale reflects how much negative impact your boss’ behavior has on you (and others’) feelings and ability to work. The descriptions below the scale suggest what bosses do who create low, medium or high problems for their employees. Mark an x on the horizontal line where you believe the degree of problem severity falls.

Problem Severity

Low Severity Most of the time, my working relationship with my boss is satisfactory. Occasionally when very stressed, she is disorganized, noncommunicative and sarcastic. It usually passes with time. Does not have serious impact. Medium Severity Boss is tough, very demanding and critical. Hard to please. Sometimes tries to improve by reading management books and taking courses. Has made some improvement. Affects me and other employees variously depending on the situation. High Severity Supervisor is unethical, rigid, emotionally disturbed, unfeeling. Impossible to do my job well because of poor information and constant criticism. Employees suffer from low morale, high turnover.
