Chapter 23. Productivity Principles > Barrier 6: Disorganized Boss

Barrier 6: Disorganized Boss

Robert Half International surveyed executives and found they waste nearly four weeks a year because they cannot find things and another three weeks a year on unnecessary phone calls. So what can you do for your disorganized boss?

Keep a dated copy of everything you send to your boss. Help your boss establish realistic time frames. Be flexible and use your energy to help alleviate the problem rather than escalate it. Share your frustration and confront the issue. If you are an organized assistant or the secretary, screen phone calls and interruptions. Suggest a daily quiet time. Try to anticipate your employer’s needs; plan ahead. Try to understand the external factors that may be influencing your boss’ organizational style. Recognize the different personality styles and how they affect time usage. Determine how you might minimize your boss’ weaknesses as well as your own.
