Chapter 23. Productivity Principles > Barrier 4: Lack of Information

Barrier 4: Lack of Information

Information is power and the lack of it greatly lessens your chance of doing an effective job. There are several ways you can try to gain access to information from your boss.

Tell your boss that you need the information. Be diplomatically aggressive-use meetings, the phone and memos to ask for the information. Be sincere. Share your feelings of frustration with your boss, and ask if there is anything you can do to get access to the information. Follow up when you do not hear from your boss. Put information items on the bi-weekly meeting agenda. Plan ahead for slow response time. Use electronic mail to facilitate information sharing. Ask for a copy of your boss’ management staff meeting minutes so that you can get a better sense of the big picture.
