How to Achieve Good Performance Evaluations

For most people the performance evaluation process is extremely painful. It has traditionally been used as a time to report bad news to the individual, such as all the mistakes made during the past year. Not only is it personally painful to hear criticism, but the evaluation process is often tied to salary adjustments for the coming year.

More enlightened organizations and their managers are learning how to give feedback regularly and to use the periodic, formal evaluation as opportunity to summarize feedback already provided as well as to set annual goals.
