Organizational Impact

Unethical behavior destroys the reputation of the individual and of the company. Sometimes clients feel that they can no longer trust the company to deal fairly with them. Sometimes they do not want to be associated with a company that has a poor reputation.

Even if the company and individual are not financially hurt, unethical behavior eats away at their purpose. Consider the blow The New York Times took in admitting one of its reporters filed bogus stories. The paper came clean and fired the reporter, but over 100 years of integrity in reporting was damaged.
