Emotional Intelligence Approach to Ruthless Managers

There are many ruthless people in business. Limiting contact with them is your first line of defense. Often, however, that is not possible. At the least, you should be aware of who poses the greatest risk and avoid setting yourself up to be their victim when you work with them.

It is generally wise to avoid getting in the way of someone with a reputation for ruthless aggression until you have enough power and outside support to stand up to him. If you do not pose a threat to his wishes, he will have no reason to attack you. If you support him, he will want to help you. It may be annoying to go along with his agenda, but it is better than martyring yourself when there is little chance of victory.
