  • Call in expert advice for assessment of risk potential and guidance on decreasing the risk

  • Help gather data relevant to risk assessment: prior history

  • Avoid provoking the person (for example, by getting an order of protection)

  • Seriously listen to the potential perpetrator’s complaints

  • Offer to do what you can to help

  • Remind the dangerous person that he can always act later, and that they should first try to find a nonviolent solution

  • Keep the target out of harm’s way
