Dealing with Depressed Colleagues

The most important step in dealing with a depressed superior, subordinate, or peer is to realize that the problem he or she is having is indeed depression. Often, people only see the irritability or low energy and pessimism and think that the problem is the individual’s personality. Realizing that the problem may be depression and that help exists can literally change the person’s life. People with mild, chronic depression may have marked improvement in their functioning and their ability to enjoy life after receiving treatment.
