Conclusion

Antisocial managers are not only the most dangerous people you will confront at work, but they are likely to win your confidence and esteem prior to putting a knife into your back. Their charisma and ability to be chameleons, promising you just what you want prior to turning on you makes them remarkably dangerous. Like all narcissistic individuals they lack a conscience and empathy for others. Making them even more dangerous is that many get high on abusing other people and the system. They are often primarily driven by the challenge of beating the system and not simply by attaining a particular goal, such as promotion. They push the limits for the sake of pushing the limits, and go beyond the limits simply to prove they can get away with it. In the process, they not only hurt individuals but can bring the company down.

The best way to protect yourself from antisocial managers is to avoid hiring them. You want bright, eloquent, personable people in your company. You do not want glib, manipulative ones. It is important to not confuse the two and to be wary when potential hires look too good to be true. They may well be antisocial managers.
