Work Contribution

Our value is measured not only by the actual work we do, but also by the contribution we make to the department as a whole. This is human relations as management sees it. Productivity is not only an individual matter, it is also a divisional or department matter. Management has discovered that the way people get along together has a great deal to do with departmental productivity.

Let us take the example of a checker in a supermarket. The productivity of a checker is usually measured in three ways: speed, accuracy, and relations with customers. But it doesn’t stop there. Why? Because the way others react to this person has an influence on their own productivity, as well as on the productivity of the checker. If she (or he) is an excellent checker and measures above others in all three categories, one would think this person would be the best checker of all. But this is not necessarily true.
