Case 15: Confrontation

John did the right thing under the circumstances. After two months, he had had sufficient time to discover that the cause of Ms. Robertson’s critical attitude was deep-seated and that time alone would probably not solve the problem. John took time to investigate and gather some facts. He discovered, among other things, that two former employees in his position resigned because of Ms. Robertson and her attitude. In other words, this was not surface teasing or testing.

Although John took a serious human-relations risk by standing up to Ms. Robertson, he had at least a fair chance of resolving the problem and helping his future. If he was successful, everybody would come out ahead, including the company and Ms. Robertson.
