Management’s Position

Because rumors occur in all organizations, it is only natural to find them in business and industrial concerns. It follows that there may be a rumor mill in your organization. If there is, be forewarned. Accepting rumors as the truth can cause you to make serious human-relations mistakes. You might, for example, damage a good horizontal or vertical relationship you have built; or you might permit false information to get in the way of building a relationship that would contribute to higher productivity and, perhaps, enhance your own progress.

What is management’s position to rumor mills? This book, of course, cannot speak for your particular management. However, we can say this: the term rumor mill is not new to those in leadership positions, and management usually knows when a grapevine exists.
