Chapter 21. Getting Help from Others, In... > Knowing When You Are in Big Trouble - Pg. 230

Getting Help from Others, Including the Boss 230 This Won't Work! When you have a serious situation and can get no commitment from your boss to help you resolve it, you may have to face the fact that you may never get what you need from your boss. Simply, you may be in big trouble over the long term at your job. If you consistently lack the support of your boss regarding difficult colleagues and in other areas (resources, scheduling, and so on), not only do you have a difficult colleague but probably a difficult boss. If you are in this unfortunate situation, you have to consider the obvious. Can you live with this if it is a permanent state of affairs? Is it worth fighting your boss in the future? Is it worth putting your job on the line by going up the hierarchy, and do you have the stomach for it? It really comes down to being realistic, deciding what you can live with and what you can't live with, and preparing for the future. Sometimes working for a boss who won't support you in getting your job done just isn't worth it. Maybe it's time to do some career planning. You need to decide.
