The Balancing Act > Defining a Balanced Life

Defining a Balanced Life

Before you create your plan for a balanced life, you need to understand what you want out of your professional and personal life and create your mission. Without these pieces, your life plan will lack a guiding force.

Understand What You Want

To realize your ideal, you need to understand what you want from life. Your vision should represent all that you aspire to, both personally and professionally. Close your eyes and take a few minutes to envision your ideal future. When formulating these thoughts, use your imagination and do not allow past experiences to discourage you from dreaming. Consider every wish or aspiration you have ever had. Think about how you want to develop as a professional. Consider what you have dreamed of achieving. Also think about personal goals and dreams, perhaps even ones that you entertained in childhood. Be open to any idea, any option. Use the questions in the sidebar Envisioning Your Ideal Life to help you start imagining the possibilities.
