Chapter 33. Interpreting Fear as a Step Toward Growth

Fear occurs when you live in the future instead of the present—when you worry about what might happen. Look at the fears you listed in the preceding exercise. Aren’t they each related to something that might happen? They are not present-moment realities.

Yet to get to the future, we often need to let go of the present. Fear is an emotion that often accompanies letting go. It is a sign that you are growing. The more attached you are to what you have, who you are, what you believe today, the more fear you will experience. Here are some examples:
