Chapter 30. Replacing Negative Self-Talk with Affirmations

As you have learned in this part, building your self-esteem involves changing your negative self-talk in several steps. The first step is to become aware of what you say to yourself with the self-talk log and to practice interrupting negative thoughts with the word stop. The second step is to write out your daily acknowledgments or keep a gratitude journal. The final step is constructing positive statements, or affirmations, that eventually will replace your negative self-talk.

With an affirmation, you affirm, in the present, something you want to create in your life in the future. Remember, you are today who you thought you were yesterday! In other words, if you have been telling yourself you will never find the right job, you are probably working right now at something that you do not find fulfilling.
