Chapter 18. Removing the Veil: Clarify Your Values

As the shoulds fall away, you will replace them with your personal values. Values are beliefs that you choose to guide your life. A key word here is choose. Shoulds are absorbed without conscious choice. Values guide you in separating right from wrong in situations. When someone tells you what you should do, you can check his or her should against your values and decide what is right for you.

Not everyone will share your values. Do you judge people when they hold a different point of view? When it comes to values, there is no right or wrong, good or bad; there is only different. As you stop judging yourself, you will stop judging others. When the judging is silenced, you will be able to hear with increasing clarity what it is you really, really want to do.
