Chapter 16. Improving Listening Skills

In many interactions with others the most important interpersonal skill is listening. No matter how skillfully one person chooses and delivers the words, communication does not occur if the other person does not listen. Self-empowered people know that good listening skills demonstrate respect for others and improve the odds for successful win-win interactions.

Ideally, a listener provides a response that proves to the speaker that he or she has been heard and understood. The ideal response also confirms for the listener that what was heard was understood accurately.
