Replacing Self-Criticism with Constructive Comments

Many of the negative labels we give ourselves were applied to us early in life by other people. As small children we heard adults saying that we were this or that, and we believed them. Some of the disapproving messages we heard became part of our self-image and perceptions of reality.

The point is not to become angry with the adults who were early influences in your life. Your challenge now is to break free of such limits on your self-esteem. Everyone carries a load of early labels and self-defeating habits. Becoming self-empowered means lightening that load.
