The Problem with Self-Criticism

Imagine how you would feel if you had a hypercritical boss telling you every day how badly you were doing and how you would never improve. Imagine what it would be like to have a disapproving parent with you to chastise you any time you made a mistake, broke a rule, or forgot something.

That is exactly what many of us do to ourselves with negative self-talk. Some who have studied this aspect of human behavior have estimated that as much as 80% of the average person’s self-talk is negative. That much daily disapproval could erode anyone’s self-esteem.
