Making Choices

Most of our life situations present us with options, and making choices can prove to be challenging. Self-empowered people are aware of their own values and preferences and feel comfortable with allowing their wants—rather than what might please others—to be the most important deciding factor.

Often it is easier to decide what you do not want. That can be a helpful first step toward identifying your wants, but it is important to become aware of what you do want. Knowing only what you do not want can lead to passivity in your dealings with others. Knowing what you do want and actively ensuring that you get your wants satisfied are necessary to being self-empowered.
