SUCCESS CARD 19: Know-How • Choose Appropriately • Enhance Yourself

Know-How

Now is the perfect time to take stock of what you have to work with: your personal coloring, body type, and current wardrobe. Every life transition or career move should be accompanied by a complete overhaul of your “look.” This visual makeover signals to the world that you've done some self-examination, made a few changes, and are ready for the next phase of your life. Professionals in the image industry are the people to go to when you need an objective and expert eye. For example, certified professionals of the Association of Image Consultants International have been qualified through years of professional training and experience to give you the answers to your questions about how to dress, groom, and shop. Whomever you choose, call their references before you begin; you will be putting your trust in them.

Clothing should be the backdrop, never the star. Your use of color can aid in that effort. When you wear clothes that flatter your natural coloring, there's nothing to distract the observer from finding your face, making eye contact, and communicating. You become the focus, not your clothes. In very simple terms, people fall into one of two categories: those with predominantly cool tones in their skin, hair, and eyes, and those with predominantly warm tones in their skin, hair, and eyes. Cool-toned people usually look best in cool clothing colors and cosmetics; warm-toned people usually look best in warm clothing colors and cosmetics. To learn whether you're cool or warm, consider booking a color analysis consultation. A trained color professional can select a grouping of colors for you that, when matched in your clothing, will enhance your natural coloring. Armed with this information, you will be able to make informed shopping choices and select clothing in hues that add to your personal presentation.
