Chapter 5. SWT Text Fields

Chapter 5. SWT Text Fields

In the next several chapters, you will expand your knowledge of the SWT by examining the four widgets that are most often a part of GUIs—text fields, buttons, lists, and combos. We begin that examination with a look at the SWT Text class, which is located in the org.eclipse.swt.widgets package.

Text fields are a standard part of any GUI—used either to present information to the user, or to enable the user to edit or create information. Text fields can appear as single-line edit fields, in which the user may enter or view a set amount of information (specified by the width of the field in characters), or multiline edit fields, in which the user can enter or view free-form text that wraps across lines. Text fields can also have a variety of borders, to assist in developing the look and feel that you desire for your user interface (i.e., 3D or flat boxes).
