Part: I Widgets > Basic Controls

Chapter 7. Basic Controls

The simplest controls commonly used in application programs are labels, buttons, texts, lists, and combo boxes. These controls are most often found in dialogs but may also appear in top-level windows. For this reason, studying them is important and a good place to start learning SWT.

Many of the concepts that are introduced in this section also apply to the more complex controls. For example, the “item” classes, associated with trees and tables, often provide API that is very similar to class Button. As well, in this chapter you will encounter some of the fundamental design philosophies of SWT. A firm understanding of the simplest controls in SWT will allow you to move forward to more complex topics.
