15.11. Forcing a Layout

When you set an attribute of a control that affects the preferred size of the control, the control has changed in a way that can affect layout. For example, setting the text of a button can make the preferred size of the button smaller or larger. In this case, the layout needs to be informed of the change. This is called forcing a layout. If you do not force a layout, depending on the Layout class, the change may not take effect until the next time the composite is resized.[15]

[15] Some layouts cache the preferred size of a control and need to be told to clear the cache.

There are other situations where you might want to force a layout. These include the following.
