Chapter 19. Images > Class Image

19.2. Class Image

Instances of class Image represent images whose storage is organized in a format that is suitable for display on a particular device. Because of their device-specific representation, the operations that SWT provides for Images can be implemented using the native functionality of each platform. This includes making use of hardware graphics accelerators on platforms that support them. Images implement the interface Drawable, so all of the GC drawing methods can be applied to Images.

Image instances hold onto operating system memory, so you must follow the standard life cycle rules for SWT when working with them: If you create an Image, you must call dispose() when you are done with it.
