7.6. Summary

In this chapter, you have learned to use some of the simplest controls in SWT. Along the way, important widget properties, such as text, image, and alignment, were introduced. These properties, along with the separator concept from class Label, will appear again when we discuss the item classes in SWT. From class Button, we encountered selection and learned that SWT uses style bits to minimize the number of classes in the toolkit. Text controls provided the concepts of single- and multiline, read-only, and scrolling. Lists, although no longer very popular controls, are index-based and bear close resemblance to the advanced controls Table and Tree. Ideas introduced in List can be applied to those classes.

Understanding the basic controls and the concepts they introduce is essential to understanding the more complicated controls and the general philosophies of SWT.
