Part 2: VIRTUAL REALITY MODELING LANGUAG... > CUSTOMIZING LIGHT, BACKGROUND, FOG, ...

Chapter 9. CUSTOMIZING LIGHT, BACKGROUND, FOG, AND SOUND

Topics in This Chapter

  • Going beyond the default browser headlight with the DirectionalLight node, PointLight node, and SpotLight node

  • Creating sky, ground, and panoramic backgrounds with the Background node

  • Creating the effect of atmospheric perspective (fog or haze) using the Fog node

  • Adding ambient and spatialized audio to your world with the Sound node

In previous chapters you've manipulated various settings of specific node fields in order to customize properties such as object location, orientation, and appearances. In this chapter, however, you'll learn how to customize more general properties that can affect an entire scene. Here you'll learn how to control the overall lighting of your worlds, in addition to the sky, ground, and backdrop elements of scenes. You'll also learn how to introduce and control the atmospheric effect of fog (haze, or, as Leonardo da Vinci called it, "atmospheric perspective"—Chapter 3, "Entering the Third Dimension" ), as well as sound.
