Chapter 12. JAVA 3D FUNDAMENTALS > Digging Deeper into Java 3D

Digging Deeper into Java 3D

Although Java 3D is similar to VRML in many ways, it's quite a bit more complex (and also more capable). While you may be familiar with VRML from Part II of this book, you've undoubtedly noticed by now that Java 3D introduces a number of new terms and concepts. Once you're comfortable with the basic Java 3D scene graph and API discussions above, you'll need to dig a little deeper into Java 3D fundamentals before you'll feel at ease jumping into source code.

In the sections that follow, we'll explore the Java 3D scene graph and API in more detail, after which you'll write your own simple Java 3D program. If you're particularly anxious to work with Java 3D source code now, you can jump ahead to "Creating A Simple Virtual Universe," although we'd caution against it; that section, like the rest of the Java 3D chapters in this book, assumes a familiarity with the following material.
