Summary

VRML supports three light nodes in addition to the default headlight provided by VRML browsers. By placing DirectionalLight, PointLight, and SpotLight nodes in your scenes you can create a wide range of lighting effects for your worlds. By default, these nodes generate white light, although you can shine any RGB color through them.

Using the Background node, you can create sky and ground colors for your world, as well as panoramic background images. Conceptually, VRML backgrounds (sky, ground, and panoramic backgrounds) can be thought of as a box sitting inside two spheres. The box, upon each face of which a different image may be placed, represents the panoramic background. Outside the box is the ground sphere, which is a half-sphere that surrounds the bottom of the box. The sky sphere, in turn, encloses both the partial ground sphere and the background box inside it.
