Benefits of the Best-Case Scenario and Two-Sheet Methods

Using the Best-Case Scenario design method saves us from coding to the limitations of the least common denominator. We can create a commercial, well-branded, hybrid layout without writing reams of garbage markup.

Using the Two-Sheet CSS method saves us from excluding the least common denominator, or sticking users of least common denominator browsers with nothing to look at. We give these users the best visual experience we can under their limited circumstances, we don't lecture them about the crappiness of their browser, and we don't hate them for forcing us to deform our CSS and XHTML (because we haven't done anything of the kind).
