One Page, Two Designs

After a tab order facelift, our site looked the same as it always had. But in a sense, the site now had two user interface designs: one for traditional graphical browser users who navigate via the mouse, the other for those who tab in graphical or nongraphical browsers. The two designs coexisted peacefully, requiring no special “accessible” page versions and creating no change to the visual design most visitors see. (On the other hand, if our color scheme had rendered text illegible for visually impaired visitors, we would have fixed it, perhaps changing the overall design in the process.)
