Once you’ve made an internal decision to end your site, you have to begin the process of communicating that decision externally. Treat this with kid gloves—even the smallest community site will have dedicated members for whom this news will be hard to take. Here are some good do’s and don’ts to remember in your ending process.

DO be honest. Communicate your reasons for shutting down the site. If there exists the possibility to change this decision, communicate what that is. If you need help, ask for it. But if the decision is final, and the reasons unchangeable, communicate that, too.
