Functional Principles

As we'll see, implementing user assistance is straightforward. Designing user assistance that actually assists the user is a different issue. After all, setting control colors is easy, too, but coming up with a great color scheme requires both knowledge and experience.

Fortunately, effective user assistance doesn't require artistic gifts, just some thought and the application of a few basic principles. This isn't to say that the job is trivial. I have had the great good fortune of working with some experts in the field of user support and training, and I have great respect for their expertise and the unique contribution they can make to any development project.
