Using Fonts

The last few pages have given you a short course in typography. Now, I was a calligrapher once upon a time, and I'm a writer now, so I obviously think text is cool, but why should you care? Because you need to be aware of the characteristics of typefaces to make good design decisions, and the right design decisions can make the difference between a painful user interface and an accessible one.

So let's look at some of the rules for choosing fonts. In the discussion of type categories, I made some recommendations about which typefaces were readable in different situations, but let's look at that in more detail.
