Chapter 15. Managing Data Display > Navigating through Data

Navigating through Data

The majority of forms in your application will display a single logical entity. The entity may be represented by multiple rows from related DataTables, but at the logical level the form will display only a single entity at a time. But most forms are designed to display any instance of that logical entity, so the issue then arises of how the user will choose, and change, the instance displayed.

Choosing the instance that is initially displayed is most often a question of filtering or searching. We'll discuss both of those functions in Chapter 19, Sorting, Searching, and Filtering. In this section, we'll discuss the mechanisms for allowing users to navigate through the current set of instances.
