Using the ErrorProvider Control

The job of the interface designer got a lot easier with the advent of the ErrorProvider control. This control solves many of the problems associated with the more traditional forms of error notification: It doesn't interrupt the user, and yet it's plainly visible. Unlike a message box, it doesn't disappear once the user acknowledges it. Better yet, it's almost trivially easy to use.

The ErrorProvider is an extender control. Once added to a Form, it adds an “Error on <ErrorProviderName>” property to every control contained on that Form. This property is visible in the Properties window of Visual Studio, but it is most often set at runtime, using the SetError method:
