Chapter 18. Database Integrity > Validation Techniques

Validation Techniques

Now, all of this may seem to have wandered rather far away from the user interface, but as is so often the case in the .NET Framework, there are several ways to go about enforcing constraints and rules, and the application architecture influences your choice of validation technique.

In addition to the properties of specific controls that can be used to constrain user input to valid values, the .NET Framework Control class exposes two events that can be used to perform procedural validation: Validating and Validated. The DataSet provides four corresponding events: ColumnChanging, ColumnChanged, RowChanging, and RowChanged. (We'll discuss each of these events in more detail later in this section.)
