Chapter 23. Installation

The creation of an installation project is, as a general rule, the very last step in a development project, but since installation will be the first contact a user has with your application, its user interface deserves due consideration. (Remember what “they” say about first impressions.) In addition, the way in which your application installs can have an impact on its usability; applications that install odd files in strange places can be confusing for the user.

In this chapter we'll examine the Windows conventions regarding application installation, and also the functions provided by a Visual Studio Setup project for customizing the user interface of a Windows Installer package.
