Chapter 12. Staffing > What to Look for When Hiring

What to Look for When Hiring

Hiring your first usability staff can be tricky. The market for usability personnel is poorly defined. The people responsible for recruiting and hiring in your organization may not have experience or guidance in what to look for.

An organization hiring senior people for the first time may have a hard time finding them. Senior practitioners in the usability field are still a small group, and they tend to be networked together with professional groups such as the ACM SIGCHI and the Usability Professionals Association.[3] For more junior staff, there are thousands of people in the field (and many thousands more who claim to be in the field).
