Having Responsibility

The central usability group takes responsibility for usability throughout the organization. This responsibility includes an attitude of involvement and concern, as well as a set of specific activities. The central group should watch for projects that need usability help and areas of the company business that will benefit from usability work. The central group needs to make sure that the projects get the attention they need.

Ensuring that usability practitioners are working on important projects is the primary requirement. After assigning a practitioner to a project, the organization must provide the necessary skills, methodology, standards, tools, and channels of communication. The central group has to constantly review the internal process and consider the lessons learned and opportunities uncovered.
