Small-Size Effects

Small screens impose limitations on design that will affect the user's experience. Three possible effects result from reduction of screen “real estate” space: screen context, constructive synthesis, and partial content.

Screen context effect. The amount of information shown affects how the viewer of the information interprets it. Using the definition of context as “that which surrounds,” user's interpretations and therefore user's actions can be sensitive to the viewing area of the information. Using the definition of context as “that which weaves constituents into a coherent whole,” the user's interpretation can be influenced by the objects available for weaving.
