5.7. The Launch Phase

The Launch phase deals with the live deployment of the Web site. At this point, there is time to do only minor polishing on the Web site, such as checking for misspellings, grammatical errors, broken links, and broken images. All of the major checks should have been done in the previous phase, Implementation.

Some design teams choose to roll out the Web site in stages. Instead of developing the entire Web site at once and waiting until the very end to deploy it, selected parts of the Web site are created and deployed incrementally. Develop the most important functions and subsites first, and post them on a beta Web site for early adopters. Use the resulting feedback to drive the immediate design and development of the rest of the Web site. Handle staged development carefully because if the Web site is rolled out too early and shows a lack of content and polish, potential customers may avoid the site later.
