Problem

Customers' browser sizes affect the amount of text they can see on the screen. When people make their browsers too large, each line of text becomes too long to read comfortably.

When text is too wide, it is difficult to skim and to find the next line of text. Use fixed-width screen sizes to correct this problem. In contrast to EXPANDING-WIDTH SCREEN SIZES (I4), fixed-width screen sizes keep a Web page at exactly the same width, regardless of the size of your customer's Web browser (see Figure I5.2). This is a useful technique for news and magazine articles, essays, and other long passages of text.
