Problem

Large images are slow to download.

Reducing the sizes of images can significantly speed up your customers' experience on your Web site. However, reducing the size of an image can also reduce the quality of that image. There are trade-offs you must consider when balancing image quality and image size. Three main approaches to reducing the file size of images are cropping (reducing the file size of an image by trimming unneeded portions of the image), shrinking (scaling down the entire image), and compressing (reducing the number of colors used in an image or intentionally degrading the overall quality of an image, thereby reducing the amount of information required to encode the image).
