Informal Evaluations

Informal evaluations are a natural outgrowth of rapid iteration and low-fidelity prototyping. The idea is quite straightforward: Recruit five to ten people who are representative of your target customers, show them your Web site prototype, ask them to do some of the tasks from your task analysis, and take good notes. Your goal is to obtain qualitative feedback from customers about what works and what doesn't, both from what they say and from what they actually do.

The prototype does not have to be computer based. It can be as simple as a paper prototype. In this case, have people point and click with their fingers, just as they would do with a mouse.
