Use Card Sorting to Help Structure the Information on Your Web Site

The purpose of card sorting is to give you a better idea of how customers organize information. Give participants a stack of cards, each of which has a label representing a Web page or a set of Web pages, and have participants organize the cards in a way that is meaningful to them, grouping the cards and explaining the reasons for their grouping choices. See what names they use for the groups. These might be good names to use on your site. This technique is also used for creating BROWSABLE CONTENT (B2) and is described in more detail in Chapter 3—Knowing Your Customers: Principles and Techniques.
