Design for Lower-Resolution Displays

One quirk about the Web is that you do not necessarily know what kind of display size your customers will have. Some people still have displays with only 640 × 480 resolution. Most will have at least 800 × 600 resolution, and a few will have better resolution. Survey your customers and gather the statistics for your target customers so that you can create the most effective design for them.

Design your Web pages to work at a slightly lower resolution than the resolution of your customers' monitors. Remember that Web browsers, with the browser buttons and scroll bar, take up space themselves. In addition, not all of your customers will have their Web browsers maximized to fit the entire screen.
